Lotronex

Lotronex was developed by GlaxoSmithKline to help women suffering from irritable bowel syndrome. The FDA approved its use in 2000.

Lotronex works by slowing the digestion in the gastrointestinal tract. By doing this, Lotronex is supposed to help treat irritable bowel syndrome. Unfortunately, Lotronex has been found to cause serious side effects and even death. These side effects include:

  • Ischemic Colitis
  • Severe Constipation
  • Death
  • Digestion Complications

In some cases, patients using Lotronex have suffered complications and side effects so severe that they needed blood transfusions and/or removal of part of their intestines. Lotronex was taken off the market in 2000 as a result of the connections to such serious side effects.

However, Lotronex has been re-approved under a very restricted risk-management program. Lotronex is now only prescribed in very special circumstances for women suffering from serious irritable bowel syndrome.

If you or a loved one has suffered any serious medical conditions as a result of taking Lotronex, contact the Law Offices of Michael A. DeMayo, L.L.P. ® to schedule your free initial consultation.
