Strattera

Strattera, manufactured by Eli Lilly & Co., is a prescription drug that is given to children, adolescents, and adults to treat ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyper-activity Disorder.

Unlike other ADHD medications, Strattera does not stimulate the chemical dopamine within the body. Rather, Strattera inhibits the nerve cells that absorb norepinephrine. This allows the body access to increased levels of norepinephrine.

Strattera allows people suffering from the effects of ADHD to concentrate and focus because the norepinephrine in their body regulates their impulses. Recently, however, there have been reports of Strattera causing liver damage and, in some cases, death.

Other Strattera side effects can include:

• Insomnia
• Loss of Appetite
• Dizziness
• Nausea
• Mood Swings

Although Strattera is still available to treat ADHD, it will carry a warning about the potential for serious liver damage.
