2015 Michael A. DeMayo Scholarship

CHARLOTTE, NC (January 14, 2015) – For the 13th consecutive year, the Law Offices of Michael A. DeMayo is awarding scholarships to local high school seniors through a scholarship program that focuses on teaching students about the dangers of underage drinking. Fifteen graduating seniors will be awarded $2,500.00 toward their college education through the 13th annual Michael A. DeMayo Scholarship Program.

The DeMayo Law Offices will be awarding $37,500 in college scholarships to 15 high school seniors who reside and attend schools in counties served by the firm. North Carolina counties include: Mecklenburg, Gaston, Catawba, Union, Cabarrus, Cleveland, Lincoln, Rowan, Caldwell, Stanly, Iredell, Alexander, Burke, Robeson, Scotland, Richmond, Anson and Cumberland. South Carolina counties include: York, Lancaster, Chesterfield, Marlboro and Dillon. The deadline for applications is March 23, 2015.

The scholarship program began in 2003, with the personal injury law firm awarding five $1,000.00 scholarships to Mecklenburg County seniors who wrote essays on how the students could help curb underage drinking and driving.

Over the past decade, the program has grown to include winners across 23 counties; with hundreds of students vying for the chance to win one of the 15, $2,500.00 scholarship awards.  In addition to writing an essay, students are also now able to create presentations using videos, brochures, PowerPoint and web design to compete for these coveted scholarships.

To qualify, students must have applied for full-time enrollment at a four-year university or college and return the 2015 application packet to the DeMayo Law Offices by March 23, 2015. Scholarships will be awarded based on the student’s submission, SAT scores, transcripts, letters of recommendation, community service initiatives and extracurricular activities. Winners will be announced on May 1, 2015.

“Our Scholarship Program reflects our passionate commitment and dedication to help educate, train and potentially save young adults in our area. Our daily experience enables us to contribute our specialized knowledge to raise awareness about the dangers and consequences of underage drinking and driving,” DeMayo said.  “For the last 14 years it is my sincere honor to positively impact and educate young adults in our communities by awarding over Three Hundred and Ten Thousand Dollars ($310,000.00) for college scholarships to over 117 North and South Carolina high school seniors who are attending college. The information and awareness they now possess will enable them to educate their peers about the dangers of underage drinking and driving and hopefully save a few lives in the process.”
