Ford Is the Latest Manufacturer To Issue Airbag Recall

Posted on September 2014

Ford announced on September 26, 2014 that they are recalling about 850,000 cars and SUVs. This latest auto recall is related to the possibility of injuries that could occur because of defective parts that control the vehicles’ airbags. The manufacturer said that there is potential for a problem where airbags may not function correctly in an automobile accident.  Faulty or defective airbags have frequently been in the news this year as other manufacturers have recalled cars because of the potential for injury.

Ford advised of issues with a part known as the ‘restraints control module’ and that it could possibly short circuit. In the event that this happens, the airbag warning light may turn on, preventing safety devices in the car from working in the event of a crash. There are also concerns that this may prevent stability controls in the car from working properly.

At this time, no injuries from car accidents have been linked to these defective parts. The vehicles impacted from this most recent recall include the 2013-2014 Ford C-Max compact, Ford Fusion Midsize, Ford Escape, and the Lincoln MKZ. 745,000 of the recalled vehicles were sold in the United States with the rest being sold in Canada and Mexico. Dealerships will replace the defective parts at no cost.

Anyone that owns or drives one of these cars or SUVs that are impacted by this safety recall should contact their local Ford dealership regarding instructions for receiving the repairs.
