Meridia, manufactured by Knoll Pharmaceutical manufactures, is prescribed to severely overweight people as an appetite suppressant. It is also known as sibutramine hydrochloric monohydrate.
Meridia works by inhibiting the chemical receptors of serotonin that makes you feel full after a meal. Meridia causes you to feel full longer, suppressing your appetite and allowing you to lose weight.
The side effects associated with Meridia are very serious and include:
- Stroke
- Seizures
- Heart Disease
- Psychological and Mental Complications
- High Blood Pressure
- Anorexia
- Constipation
- Insomnia
- Headaches
Meridia has been linked to nearly 30 deaths within the United States, as well as numerous other medical problems. While the FDA has not yet required that Meridia be taken off the shelves, Meridia has been petitioned against because of the serious medical problems it causes.
If you or a loved one has been injured or harmed as a result of taking Meridia, contact DeMayo Law Offices, L.L.P. ® to schedule your free initial consultation.
