2006 Michael A. DeMayo Scholarship Program

High school seniors will have another chance to offer their solutions and ideas about educating and preventing fellow teenagers from the tragic consequences of drinking and driving while earning $2,500 toward their college education thanks to the fifth annual Michael A. DeMayo Scholarship program. DeMayo Law Offices will be awarding $25,000 in college scholarships to 10 graduating high school seniors in counties served by the firm, including Mecklenburg, Gaston, Catawba, Union, Cabarrus, Cleveland, Lincoln, Rowan, Caldwell, York, Stanly and Iredell counties.

To qualify, students must have applied for full-time enrollment at a four-year university and return the application packet to the law firm by March 2, 2006. Interested students can pick up an application packet at their school’s guidance counselor’s office. Scholarships will be awarded based on the student’s response to an essay on how to prevent underage drinking and driving, as well as their application, SAT scores, and transcripts. Winners will be chosen by a selection committee and announced by April 13. The 10 winning essays will be published in a booklet and sent to community leaders and lawmakers with hope that the students’ thoughts and suggestions could help formulate public policy and increase awareness. This is the fifth consecutive year of the Michael A. DeMayo Scholarship program.
