Michael A. DeMayo Scholarship Program
The annual Michael A. DeMayo Scholarship program is an exciting opportunity for local high school seniors to have a chance to win a $2,500 scholarship toward their college education.
The firm will be awarding $37,500 in college scholarships to 15 high school seniors who reside and attend schools in counties served by the firm, including: Mecklenburg, Gaston, Catawba, Union, Cabarrus, Cleveland, Lincoln, Rowan, Caldwell, Stanly, Iredell, Alexander, Burke, Robeson, Scotland, Richmond, Anson, Cumberland, York, Lancaster, Chesterfield, Marlboro and Dillon.
When the scholarship program began in 2003, the personal injury law firm awarded five $1,000 scholarships to Mecklenburg County seniors who wrote essays on how the community could help curb underage drinking and driving.
Over the past decade, the program has grown to include 15 winners across 23 counties who each receive a $2,500 scholarship. In addition to writing an essay, students are also now able to express themselves through other media, including video, PowerPoint, web design or brochure design.
To qualify, students must have applied for full-time enrollment at a four-year university or college and complete and return a scholarship application to the Law Offices of Michael A. DeMayo, L.L.P. by the announced deadline. Scholarships will be awarded based on the student’s presentation, as well as their application, SAT scores, transcripts and letters of recommendation. Winners will be chosen by a selection committee.
“Our firm has chosen this investment in our youth so that all of us together can help prevent underage drinking and driving,” DeMayo said. “We are proud to make a difference in our community by awarding over $300,000 in college scholarships to deserving high school seniors in North and South Carolina since 2003.”
